Saving water while showering

In what I'd surmise a conservation act unparalleled by any other, I witnessed a man shut off the shower while lathering up at the gym. He turned on the facet to wet himself. Then turned it off to lather up. Then turned it back on to rinse.

It takes a significant act for me to acknowledge any behavior in a public shower. I remember in 8th grade, the football coach came trotting into the shower only to find himself slipping onto his back side and cracking his head against the hard tile. Witnessing a three-hundred-pound naked man, grown nonetheless, asking for some assistance getting up was the last, up until this point, significant event I remember while bathing in public. I was scarred.

Back to the recent shower observation; I couldn't believe it. Who is so concerned about water they can't let a few cups dribble out of the under-pressurized YMCA shower facets? I let the sucker blast.

Collecting, cleaning, delivering, and heating water takes a lot of energy. I am not saying that you are destroying the earth by letting your shower run while you lather up. However, this is somewhat reminiscent of the attitude towards gasoline (in the first two thirds of my life) which has proven to be quite expensive. Not to mention wasteful. "Who cares, its practically free!"

The reality is that ALL resources are finite. If there are areas you can conserve, why not? Everyone has personal preferences, so why not find the areas you can use less than average, within said preferences.

While I respect your comments and agree with them, remember, we're talking about taking a two minute shower here. Not driving a Hummer.
