Overall Nutritional Quality Index

While laying in bed last night, waiting for my wife to bring my water up, I read an interesting piece on the Overall Nutritional Quality Index in National Geographic.  The index’s purpose is to give an overall rating for how good different foods are for you.  In NG’s short segment, they listed broccoli as 100 and a popsicle as 1.  Higher is better.

Supposedly the index is going to start showing up at grocery stores near you.  My shopping visits are so infrequent that, for all I know, some stores may have already implemented the index.

I don’t think the index will have any affect on American’s obesity problem.  However, for statistic nuts like me, we’ll find it interesting that the pop and candy bar we had for breakfast has a total nutritional index of 2.

I'm excited that I can eat 100 popsicles and tell my wife I don't need to eat broccoli.
