Mickey Mouse Play House.

The Mickey Mouse Play House theme song is running through my head today. It's actually been in my head for the past two days, but I'm only noticing it today. My wife - who is on maternity leave - is in the habit of having Mickey Mouse Play House on for my three month old son every morning. I was appalled at first, but then I watched a few minutes and its actually pretty educational.

This got me thinking, is watching TV good for my son? I'm of the belief that too much of anything is bad. Take water, the basis of all life. Can't hurt a thing right? Then some radio show makes people drink too much of it, and a woman passes. Too much of anything is bad.

So here is my hypothesis; too much TV is bad for kids. But a little bit, especially if it's educational, is good. It helps stimulate their little brains and gives mom sometime to get chores done around the house.

"Mickey Mouse Play--House, M.O.U.S.E.
Mickey Mouse Play--House, M.O.U.S.E.
Come inside, it's fun inside.
Mickey Mouse Play--House, M.O.U.S.E."

Watch the end...much worse. Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog, it's a brand new day..." We've let my daughter watch t.v. since she first wanted to, but we always left the subtitles on with movies and when we could, netflixed or picked up a copy of a movie for her to watch instead of television so that it had subtitles and dispensed with most of the commercials (although channels like Disney aren't as bad as the cartoon mornings I had as a youth, commercial wise). She still asks for the subtitles to be on and complains when the words don't match what the characters are saying - good reading practice.

I might have to check out the last part. Maybe that will stick in my mind then. This Mickey Mouse song that it starts with is killing me.

I like the subtitle idea. I'm going to give that a try.
