Here is how I solve problems. For some reason, my brain leads me all over the place before I find the solution. I never, never find the solution right away. I'm always scattered all over the place.
One good thing that comes of this is that I walk away with full understanding my problem and solution, and a myriad of periphery items. For example, while trying to figure out who to compile custom modules for the Apache Httpd server, I not only found three solutions, but also learned how to write MAKEFILES, how the gcc compiler works, and how to ask a smart person a seemingly dumb question. I guess there is value in that.
