2008 Halloween

I count tricker-treaters. I know it's weird, but it something I just can't help. I enjoy keeping odd statistics.

This year we had 49, which is the lowest number of kids I've counted. Past years have a mean of 56.

The first treater came at 7PM with the last being around 9. I'm thinking that the delay in day-light-savings is why they got started late. In 2004, the first one came at 5:15 and the last was 8:30.

I'm not sure why the numbers were so low? The weather was nice and I don't remember hearing any candy poisoning threats in the newspaper. Maybe a statistical anomaly? Maybe I'm scaring kids (and parents) by counting them with notebook in hand? I guess we'll find out next year.

How many did you have?

We had zero, down from about six last year. Of course, we weren't home from 5:30 to about 7pm. Still, we had lights on inside and out. Last year one little guy from 2 houses east stood with his candy bag open and as I dropped in two quarters, he said "you're supposed to give me candy!" His dad almost stroked out right there on our sidewalk. We had a candy bar ready for him this year but, no show.

We had 120. This is just a handful more than we had last year.
