"Life in the Valley"

My first freelance submission titled "Life in the Valley" has been published in the local Apple Valley Magazine It took around five or six different entries, to five or six different magazines, but finally someone picked up a piece of mine. No I don't plan on quitting my day job. New freelance writers don't make much, as my compensation for this piece showed ;)

Apple Valley Magazine does not have an online version so if you'd like to see the article, I plan on having a few copies on me. Though I don't have it on my today, just ask next time you see me as I should have a copy or two laying around.

The article is a satire regarding my wife and I moving from Uptown (lakes area of Minneapolis), to the southern suburbs. I compare things such as having late night beers at William's Pub in Uptown to Friday nights shopping at Target and stopping for Cold Stone icecreem in the suburbs.

In then end, I answer the question "Why we live in Apple Valley?" by stating all the great amenities that suburbs have. Apple Valley has a park for every 1000 people. The school district is one of the best in the Upper Midwest. And we have a zoo! All things that as young adults are meaningless, but after having children become priceless.

As they teach you in writing class, now you have to repurpose the article so you can get the most mileage out of it. Have you considered turning it into a three minute video you can submit to the great things about Minnesota competition?

Ah, I have not given that any thought. But now that you mention it, I do have a video camera. I'll take down the tri-pod we have in the bedroom (a reference to The Office) and see if I can put something together.
